Castle 1x01
Mar. 10th, 2009 12:23 amWas it just Nathan Fillion or was that pretty good? Basic premise: Tony Stark is a mystery novelist. He and a tough (but sexy) lady cop solve crimes. I don't know, these cop shows all look like Women's Murder Club. It's amazing. Somewhere a cinematographer's 37 kids are all going to college.
But I watched it with my brother eating chips and cheese dip, so that at least was fun enough for me to tune in next week. Best part was riffing on the scene where Mal psychoanalyzes Lady Cop's backstory (spoiler: She has angst).
Bro: He read her like a book! A book he wrote!
Me: He read her like a Kindle!
Bro: He read her like a first edition manuscript!
Me: He read her like a Wikipedia page! He read her like a TV Tropes article!
Bro: He read her like an anime fanfic.
Me: He read her like a Twitter feed.
Heroes sucked, tho. Really, Roofie Man gets a redemption arc? I mean, really? Really?Oracle Rebel, you've dropped a notch. You are officially at Notch -1. Claire, welcome to the ranks of officially too stupid to live. Saving him is like helping Osama Bin Laden to protest racial profiling. DIAF with Peter David's friend.
And stop with the comic books already! It is neither metafictional nor tribute-icious. It was one thing when you were ripping off the good comics, but now you're ripping off Civil War and actually making it stupider, because at least Tony Stark gave people the option of registering. Nathan just expects people to lie down and die.
Also, is it just me or is Claire Petrelli - Bootylicious a bit much? She's average-looking. I know, comic book geeks aren't that tough a crowd (I haven't seen this much "we're cool now, right?" self-loathing since the last time Marvel published a letters column), but still, if you're ever walked down a street, you've seen Claire Petrelli scale hot. Now Ali Larter, she's "buy Countdown just to talk with her" hot. "No, Ali, what do you think of Jason Todd's characterization?"
Next week: Two Odious Comic Relief Characters And A Baby. Remember when people liked Hiro? What happened? Not character development, I'll tell you that much...
