Nov. 7th, 2013 11:47 amRumors go like this: WB wants Olga Kurylenko from that crap Bond movie for Wonder Woman in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie, if Jaime Alexander isn't actually in talks for it. Now, I may be a biased Bridget Regan partisan who absolutely wants Tabrett Bethell to be one of the other Amazons and for there to be cuddling, but believe me that I'm being impartial in shooting this down.
Jaime Alexander... well, she wouldn't be so bad, on a scale that now includes "Ben Affleck playing Batman". But honestly, playing a woman warrior from a technologically advanced mythological civilization? They're not even two significantly different characters, like Human Torch and Captain America. If you showed Thor and a Jaime Alexander Wonder Woman movie to my grandma, she'd assume they were about cousins. I don't want Wonder Woman to be Marvel's table scraps. Yeah, I'm one of Those Fans. I don't like it when certain actors are two different superheroes.
As for Olga Kurylenko, I've just never been impressed by her in a movie. Never really been unimpressed, but I don't think she's played at the same level as Senor Bale. She's been in a few high-profile films, even some art movies, so maybe there's just something I'm not seeing, but even in something like Oblivion, she gets blown off the screen by a no-name actress like Andrea Risenborough. And yeah, you could argue that none of these superhero roles are really the kind of things that needs Laurence Olivier, but with a tough sell like Wonder Woman (even if she's only a tough sell from the production company insisting to the audience that she's a tough sell), you really need one of those lightning-in-a-bottle castings like Tony Stark as Robert Downey Jr. (wait) or Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Not one of those "oh, okay, I guess they'll do" kinda things like most of the cast of Agents of SHIELD (sorry, Not Eliza Dushku).
Plus, I question the entire premise of Wonder Woman being introduced in Batman Vs. Superman. Wouldn't that make it a Trinity movie? I mean, the movie seems busy enough with the continuing adventures of Clark and Lois, introducing Batman, God knows how many villains... now they're going to also sell the general public on Wondy when they're not spending time on Nightwing (apparently he's in the movie too. Fingers crossed, Matt Bomer. Straight fangirls deserve nice things too)?
Fuck, man, does Nicholas Winding-Refn still want to do that Christina Hendricks Wonder Woman movie? Screw it, let him do whatever he wants. The auteur approach worked with Nolan and Batman. Just say "okay, you have to leave us with a Wonder Woman who can star in the Justice League at the end of the day. Don't cut her head off or anything. otherwise, go nuts." Christina Hendricks, boom, done. There will be other fights, Bridget Regan.

Date: 2013-11-09 01:23 am (UTC)Bridget Regan would be great (and yes, Tabrett Bethell as another Amazon would be scads of fun; I miss having her on my TV). Gina Torres would be great if she weren't already busy. I like Jaime Alexander a lot but the role is way too close to her role in Thor, you're right. And I feel the same way you do about Olga Kurylenko.
And man, did you nail my feelings on the SHIELD castings, down to Not Eliza Dushku. I really feel like they cast for bland on that show.
