Now that it looks like the new Star Wars is going to be blandly okay--look, I like J.J. Abrams as much as the next guy, but him over Matthew Vaughn and Jon Favreau? Name one thing the guy's done that stacks up to Elf!--it seems like we're going to be getting all our schadenfreude from Amazing Spider-Man 2: Not The One With Doc Ock.

Case in point, Paul Giamatti as the Rhino. I guess that fits the Ultimate universe, where the Rhino is a midget inventor who climbs into a very big Rhino suit to fight Spider-Man--because I guess the nerd appeal of "he's a big, dumb guy who is very strong, but beaten by Spider-Man because Spider-Man is so smart" is lost on comic book writers these days. And I guess we can look forward to a 98% CGI Rhino instead of the complicated process of A. Finding a really big guy who can act dumb, B. Putting him in a Rhino costume, C. That is it, you are done.

Shit, man, why do we even have wrestlers?

Also, Felicity Jones will be in there, just so basically every woman in the cast is a better Mary-Jane than Shailene Woodley. This is gonna be like watching a Bond movie where Idris Elba, Clive Owen, and Michael Fassbender are M, Q, and Moneypenny, while Jennifer Lopez is 007. Nailed it.

So as Rhys Ifans is to Willem Defoe, Paul Giamatti is to Alfred Molina. I can see that. When I found out Emma Stone wasn't Mary Jane in the first one, I gave it pass. As Andrew is just one year younger than Felcity, I don't see why she can't be MJ.

Making the Rhino smarter may be plot-motivated, since an idiot is hard to write as the villain of a two-hour movie.
