I really don't get tumblr sometimes
Dec. 8th, 2012 10:40 amJames Gunn: I don't like the way a lot of fanboys objectify women. I'm going to write a satire of 'hottest women in comics' lists, with lots of ridiculous things like talking about Storm giving people enemas so people will see how silly the entire concept is!
Tumblr: OMG BAD SATIRE! I'M GOING TO SIGN A PETITION TO MAKE YOU LOSE YOUR JOB SO YOU CAN'T FEED YOUR FAMILY, THAT'LL TEACH YOU TO SUPPORT US!
Psy: I don't like the way the American military acts. I'm going to rap about how we should kill Americans, with lyrics literally saying I hope they die slowly and painfully.
Tumblr: ...HE DIDN'T SAY "YANKEES," HE SAID "BITCHES," THAT'S COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
That doesn't even sound like a real opinion, it sounds like one of those weird quirks a sitcom character has for an episode so the writers can make jokes about it. "Chandler, what do you mean you make your lobster do a little dance before you eat it? Joey, what do you mean you think James Gunn is the Antichrist but Psy isn't South Korea's answer to Ted Nugent?"
And the thing that gets me is, the stuff that Psy is rapping about is an incident where some US soldiers got into an accident and two Korean girls were killed--okay--and another time when Iraqi insurgents killed a Korean missionary because South Korea was sending troops to Iraq. Which he blamed on America. So, basically, we're Spider-Man in all this and he's a poorly-written version of J. Jonah Jameson.

Date: 2012-12-08 10:43 pm (UTC)I'd write a book or something, but I figure people are going to start calling it too unrealistic five pages in. I literally do not understand how these people function in reality, since it seems like kryptonite to them. They say the Merriam-Webster dictionary is wrong because it's owned by a company that used to be owned by white men. White men who are all dead. The fact that no one, no one at all except they do uses their definitions of the words in question completely escapes them.
In fact, I recently saw one say "the dictionary is wrong!" and then, not two paragraphs later, say that "misandry" doesn't come up in spell-check, so it's not real. Never mind how witty and original that is, or the fact that the word dates back to the 19th century. I just retorted that the word "Barack" isn't in the spell-check either.

Date: 2012-12-08 10:30 pm (UTC)But, of course, since society is a patriarchy, that means women don't have societal power, therefore women can't be sexist against men, therefore there are no mores that negatively affect men, therefore misandry doesn't exist.
Because internalized sexism doesn't exist, apparently.
I think the whole concept of the patriarchy as commonly used is flawed, because men did not actively create a society that put them in charge, and just because they're in charge doesn't mean they're biased against women and in favor of men. In fact, most of the things feminists claim as victories were granted to them by the exact same patriarchy.

Bottom line; Tumblr social justice is about as far from reality as a hot dog stand is from a five-star restauraunt.
