That Skyfall fic I was really nervous about turned out great. People actually recced it! I mean, it got the comments you'd expect for a story about a black woman instead of two honkies touching each others' man-nipples, but even so.
Gail Simone started following me on tumblr. It was not even a follow-back, man. Hey, remember when Scans_Daily thought I was some horrible sexist monster or something because I used the phrase 'mind rape' to describe mind rape? Well, now the creator of Women In The Refrigerator is reading my blog on a daily basis. But, you know, don't even worry about it, just continue sliding into batshit crazy irrelevance.
Rise of the Guardians was pretty good. The trailers tried to turn it into some awful EPIC IRREVERENT DISNEY XD CRAZINESS, instead of a story that's actually a little heartfelt and serious (the hero pretty much spends the movie wondering why a silent God created him). There is the usual caveat that apparently Easter and Christmas don't have religious meanings, but are really about advertising mascots created by Cadbury Eggs and Coca-Cola, respectively (at least here, it's intended as a nondenominational metaphor for faith, instead of something like Arthur Christmas, where people say "In Santa we believe!" without irony), and there are versions of those little things from Despicable Me that people seem to like, and God help me, I could feel the villain being turned into a woobie by fandom as I watched it despite his plan to TERRORIZE CHILDREN. But my take-away from the film is largely positive, so long as I stay away from kink memes that would explain in graphic detail what Hugh Jackman voicing a giant bunny does to the fangirl brain.
It's cliched to say something about Native Americans on Thanksgiving, so I'll only say that for hundreds or even thousands of years, the Chinese manipulated the Mongol tribes into warring among themselves to keep them from being a threat to China, until Genghis Khan united the tribes for revenge. There, you can get upset about that. It'll have the virtue of being original and Genghis Khan is cool.
