Dude, Emma Frost -- If the sequel is set in the late 60s/early 70s, you could reimagine her as an elegant older woman. You know, a Carla Gugino/Alex Kingston type (Connie Nielsen, actually, would be fine). As for why she's aged while Erik and Charles haven't, just have one scene where someone says "ah, a new mental projection?" (note: I won't accept a KOMEDY! moment of her getting knocked out and turning out to be a fattie, but I will accept her getting knocked out and turning out to be a brunette).

Also, a face turn would be interesting. By this time, Erik-as-White-King should have his Hellions (good place for a young Toad) to counter the X-Men, and it would be cool if Emma found her calling as a teacher and started actually gaining morals as Erik shed them. I just love the thought of Emma Frost ending up as the voice of morality. She doesn't have to join the X-Men, but ending up in a state of detente with her running a more hardline Massachusetts Academy would be fine. Or Emma retaking the Hellfire Club while Erik forms the Brotherhood. Who doesn't love the Hellfire Club being this random-ass strippers-and-coke party in the middle of all them mutant shenanigans?

Magneto -- So far, there've been hints that Charles and Erik would get back together (I'm not trying to write this as if they're a gay couple, it just happens) and spend more time working as one (damnit!) before finally ending things in time for the first movie. Some of the speculation is pointing toward them facing off against a common enemy, but they already pretty much covered that in X2. There's also a lot of backstory the movies haven't gone into, especially with Pietro and Wanda. There's this whole big thing where his wife was burned alive and his kids died or maybe they didn't and maybe one of them was Polaris... X-Men, let's put it that way.

So now I have all these plotbunnies about Charles mind-wiping Erik, Ultimate style, and Erik falling in love with a human woman and having the twins and then they get lynched and HO SHIT, Magneto's back! And Charles could start rethinking his rather casual use of telepathy, starting down the road to the much more respectful person he is as Patrick Stewart, but by then it's too late... he's already fixed/corrupted Jean and set her on the road to becoming the Phoenix. Or maybe you could have Emma be the one who mind-wipes Erik and Charles has a big "oh no, my boyfriend got Superman-2-kissed and I can never speak to him but he is much happier this way and I'll just give him a gentle nudge toward this woman who'd be good for him and this will never backfire ever."

Genosha - A lot of the big X-Men storylines that haven't been covered thus far are about time travel (I'm still for that, though. You could crossover flashback X-Men and present-day X-Men and retcon X-Men: The Last Stand all together.) or aliens or whatever the hell Apocalypse is. But one of the big plot points has been Genosha, which was basically apartheid!Africa for mutants until Magneto took over and turned it into Mutantland, which was then blown apart by a wild Sentinel as ordered by Charles' twin sister who wanted revenge for him murdering her as a fetus.

All together now: X-Men.

But as long as we're going with this mix of historical perspective with mutant action, apartheid is just down to earth enough to make for a good parallel. You could even introduce some more black characters, like Bishop or Maggott. Well, maybe not Maggott. I'm not even sure how to spell his name...

Female characters -- I'm just saying, now that the X-Men movies are about teenage mutants and their handsome COs, there are all kinds of women who would be great for a collegiate environment. Husk, Monet, Jubilee, and that's just in Generation X! Plus, I don't want to tell anyone how to do their job, but a movie as fanservice-y as First Class and no Psylocke? Purple-haired Asian woman with a British accent: She's like the Zach Snyder of Marvel characters. We're just gonna throw everything awesome in there and put her in a leotard. MIND SWORDS.

Dazzler -- If this movie is getting anywhere NEAR the 70s, Dazzler had better show up. Thirty years her character has waited to be relevant again. Don't fuck this up, man. You know how many words I've already written of Dazzler/Jem crossover slash? She does all of the Holograms, then she has hatesex with Pizzazz. I got that just from Adrianne Palicki wanting to play a superhero but Wonder Woman not being available, the rest was just logical extrapolation.

ETA: On another note, Leighton Meester can play any mutant she wants. If she wants to play Wolverine, then Logan will now be a classical beauty with a keen command of sarcasm and a number of awe-inspiring ensembles.

Ok, look. You have to post that Dazzler/Jem fic. Now. You can't tease us like that, it's just not fair.

>but I will accept her getting knocked out and turning out to be a brunette).

According to the comics, she's a natural brunette. What we see is the product of some very expensive plastic surgery.

Also, I know they were going for "icy", but it just comes of as underacting, like Anthony Hopkins through most of Thor.

>t a movie as fanservice-y as First Class and no Psylocke? Purple-haired Asian woman with a British accent

But they had Deathstrike! An icy Asian woman who had all of two lines and fought Wolvie sexily! They've already met their Asian quota!
