Mar. 18th, 2011 01:07 pmHey, did you know there was a Red Dawn remake coming out? Yes, someone decided a famously jingoistic 80s movies should be remade in the 00s, with Red China as the baddies. Then things got stupid. Not wanting to miss out on the foreign box office gross of China, the producers edited the film so it was about Americans fighting North Koreans, which of course wouldn't at all alienate the prospective audience of a Red Dawn remake. And then the producer got stupider.
‘Red Dawn’ isn’t for everyone. So, if you are interested in seeing a movie filled with preachy political discussions – ‘Red Dawn’ ain’t for you. If you love movies in which Americans are the bad guys – Red Dawn ain’t for you. If you get emotional watching daytime television – ‘Red Dawn’ ain’t for you. If you’re a vegetarian – ‘Red Dawn’ probably ain’t for you.
But! If you like meat with your potatoes, muscle cares that roar, tanks, guns and things blowing the fuck up by American’s kicking some Commie ass – the we have something special coming your way.
WOLVERINES!
...I'm pretty sure there's a time and a place to play the 'red-blooded American' card, and it isn't after you change your movie to avoid offending Communist China.
Also, were there really a lot of Chinese people looking forward to this, just going "Darn, if only we weren't the bad guys in this, we would love to watch a movie about American teenagers killing people who look and believe exactly as we do, but aren't quite us"?
