Seen: A woman says that men can't be feminists. A man replies that anyone can be a feminist. The woman accuses him of mansplaining. Others concur with her assessment.

I think we, as a society, should rethink our determination to turn life into a Kafka novel.

So, I'm not the only one who seems to have noticed that most arguments on the internet these days seem to boil down to "Know your place, unperson!". Good, good.

If I get lectured by one more white social sciences major on how I, as a Middle Eastern-looking Jew, benefit from white privilege, I'm pretty sure the Red Lantern Corps are getting a new recruit.

It's gotten kind of sad that any disagreement with someone else's opinion becomes 'privilege'.

Only on minority matters, and only if the disagreer is a majority.

I do think that majority privilege is a matter worth addressing, but I don't like how it's become a convenient hammer to use on any nail that raises a querulous voice, but isn't part of the minority in question. That strikes me as more destructive than constructive. If you're not listening to people with other opinions, all you've got is an echo chamber.

The best quote I've heard/read about feminism, and I can't remember where I heard/read it, was from a man. He said, "Feminism is about the words I use when women aren't around."

It seems "feminism" on the internet at least is now becoming rife with a bunch of bitches who write snobby, slapworthy, pseudo-intellectual treatises about how everything=rape and everything which doesn't cater specifically to the sensibilities of the ever-so-much-more-enlightened-than-you author of said treatises is evil male privilege or some kind of privilege. And what's worse is, indeed, the plethora of posts praising the author to high heaven and acting as though she's penned the most brillers and truest thing ever said.

There was a post a while back by a popular feminist blogger who wrote an angry screed on how the game Fat Princess was demeaning to larger women. Except that the point of the game is how the princess is valued by the soldiers trying to rescue her, no matter her size, and it was pretty clear that the blogger in question was both jumping to conclusions and had some issues of her own. There weren't any dissenting comments, though, because she declared everyone who disagreed with her a "troll" and deleted their comments.

There were a depressing amount of people agreeing with her.

That's the kind of shit I'm sick of. One person posts something. People assume it to be intelligent and true and full of deep meaning, and people rush to praise and agree because they want to feel intelligent and full of deep meaning by association. And no can say "this shit is stupid" because there's this sense of bullying and "I'm right because see how many people agree with me!" It's depressing.
