Putting aside the whole "wait, isn't Bane Hispanic?" (yes, but hell if I'm going to discuss the race of a comic book character from the 90s) thing, can we just be glad that our female lead isn't Vicki Vale, or the most generic love interest Batman has ever met? Seriously, she's not a character, she's a Trivial Pursuits answer.

Q: The woman Batman is least likely to end up with is...

A. A cat burglar who possesses the only real understanding of Batman's dark psychology.

B. The daughter of his worst enemy, torn between loyalty to her father and her love for Batman.

C. An Amazon princess who fights a never-ending battle for justice and equality.

D. A reporter most famous for being objectified in an issue of All-Star Batman & Robin.

ETA: Although if they were going the Hispanic route with Bane, wouldn't Javier Bardem have been an awesome choice?

Hold on a tick, Bane and Selina? When did this happen?

Hathaway? Out of all the actresses I thought of, I did not expect her. I wonder how she'll portray her. I haven't seen too much of her movies to know what she's capable of.

I just hope Nolan doesn't make her dull or go with her as the love object with no personality other than existing solely for the male protagonist's desire. You know, Shallow Love Interest Syndrome AKA Rachel Dawes Syndrome.

Rachel was actually not just a desire object, she was supposed to be a moral compass. Katie Holmes' annoyingness made her come across like, as one reviewer put it, a student council president.

I don't know. I think she's played in a way that makes her this desirable saint (while she never gets with Bruce Wayne; it's clear that Bruce was in love with her.) Although student council president is a pretty apt description too.

That anon above is me.

If he wanted to go the dull love interest route, there are a ton of female characters he could've used instead who wouldn't have Catwoman's baggage. If he's committing to Selina Kyle, there's probably a point to it.

I hope so. I'm going to try to be optimistic on this.

Bane's half-white, apparently, though the weird thing is that I never once thought of him as Latin American, even though he's from some fake banana republic and he wears a luchadore mask. I have no idea why.

But then, I can't say I've ever given Bane much thought either way.

Honestly, I can see them not even incorporating South America into his origin. You gotta admit, "RAISED IN A SOUTH AMERICAN PRISON!" is pretty hokey by Nolanverse standards.

I always did, but that's because I first encountered him through Henry Silva's great performance as him in BTAS, so...
