Very good post. As women, we are faced everyday with how are bodies are not up to par with other women. I bet a couple of men are feeling the sting of what us women go through most of our lives. BTW, those football/soccer players bodies are INSANE. I'm drooling right now...
Isn't this the same debate that comes up in coimcs all the time? People will cry about female characters being objectified, and when someone points out the male characters have bodies just as unrealistic, the complainant says it's different because standards of male sexiness have to do with athleticism and strength, not things like big boobs and slim waists?
It's also kinda hard to take any of these complaints about objectifying objectively when you happen to know the person in question writes Batman/Robin slashfic.
You raise a good point, mon frere. There's plenty of sexualized objectification going on from both sides of the gender fence. The significant difference, though, is that since men are the dominant gender, male desires are normalized and even legitimized in mainstream culture and female desires are treated as shameful and wicked. Hopefully, what we'll see in due time is backlash from both ends of the gender spectrum, women and men uniting to bring about a new age of mutual respect for each other's humanity while hopefully maintaining healthy ideas of sexual attraction and congress.
I'd rather just have fanservice for everyone, with everyone okay with it.
I'm weird that way. Even more so for a Christian. "So you think Lada Gaga making out with the same gender is hot, huh? Okay, better get some of Adam Lambert doing the same thing to even it up." It doesn't mean I'll watch it myself*, but I'd really like the pandering to at least be balanced.

But then again, who doesn't?

*Though both are excellent musicians.
