In wanting to get the characters down for a hardcore Doctor Who darkfic (premise: During the Year That Wasn't, the Master catches up to Sarah Jane), I've started downloading Sarah Jane episodes. It is a bit disconcerting to watch a light-hearted kids' show just so you can properly write their reactions to being severely traumatized.

For DW fandom, though, I think that puts me on the light side of the batshit. And I don't even tilt the scale for Harry Potter.

ETA: Uhhh... I think I ship Sarah-Jane Smith/Mrs. Wormwood now. Also, I want to write fic from the POV of that tour guide. Not only is he a total "hey, it's that guy!", but I love his attitude of "Sure, I'm helping to take over the world, but I'm only doing it for six-fifty an hour." Or whatever the silly British equivalent of six dollars and fifty cents is. Yeah, you Brits think you're so smart, with your metric system, but at least our currency makes sense.

Plus, we spell stuff with Z, which is a lot cooler than your S.

ETA2: ZOMG, THAT IS THE DUDE FROM HEX! THE "NOT A PROPER NURSE" DUDE! OMGWTFHEX!

ETA3: Heh. NotAProperNurse is NotAProperCthulu.

ETA4: Were I the meta-inclined, I'd perhaps see something fishy about how the black member of the cast is the oversexed boy-crazy, skeptical, "shemp" of the show.

ETA5: "The people I'm fighting have weapons and plans, I don't. That's what makes me different." Whoa, I've never seen inadequacy and lack of foresight cited as moral virtues before. What's next? "The people I'm fighting bathe regularly and tip their waiters, I don't. That's what makes me different."

ETA6: It's like they took the Slurm episode from Futurama, removed the Willy Wonka parody, and added in the dude from Hex. I think the biggest clue was when K-9 told someone to bite his shiny metal ass.

ETA7: Sarah-Jane: Oh my God, the people of Earth have been possessed by aliens, including Kelsey! We have to run for it! (everyone runs out) Let me just get my coat... (runs past dangerous possessed human, grabs coat, runs back)

Either SJS is a badass or an alien-possessed tween just isn't that intimidating.

ETA8: So the Archetype, the kid who is pretty much ten thousand people's peopleness all added together, is lily-white, while the stoo-pid jerkass is black. Again. You hurt my heart, RTD, you hurt my heart.

Okay, Srsly? You have to stop doing this to me. I haven't been into Dr Who since he had curly hair and the Scarf of Ultimate Bohemian Coolness(i am so old), but you did not just tell me that K-9 *actually* said "bite my shiny metal ass" really. you can't have. WTF?

Because. Because... Right, so I play Tribal Wars (this online strategy game) and each player gets an official paladin (for each player 'there can be only one' paladin) and so in the little box where it says "your paladin name" I put 'Your Shiny Metal Ass'. So every time I log on I get to see a little note that says "Your Shiny Metal Ass is in the village" or "Your Shiny Metal Ass has attacked X"

So the fact that Dr Who's artificial dog/companion not only swore but quoted Bender is prolly much funnier to me that it should be. Where did this happen?

OK, your DW darkfic sounds like it could be made of awesome. I'm all for torturing the kiddywinks. In fact, it's one of my favorite things to have in a fic. Which I should possibly find more worrying.

Is the Master going to do something mean to K-9?

I also resent the implication that Mickey Smith is a stoopid jerkass. He bombed downing street in like his third episode! He flew a zepplin! He is a fredom fighter in an alternate dimension! Worship him!

This dark!fic idea intrigues me, not in the least because I felt similarly compelled to do a Simm!Master/MILF!Sarah Jane dark!fic (do I even need to say it was non-con?), so I look forward to seeing your own take.
