My super-short review of White-Out

How lame is this movie? There's a scene where the heroine, Carrie, gets her gun, complete with a Significant Flashback*. The next scene, she's attacked by the killer with much screaming and evading and running away. The scene after that, she pulls her gun on someone.

She only gets less competent from there, folks. In adapting the comic, the filmmakers give her a male love interest who does most of the heavy lifting while Carrie cries about her fee-fees. Seriously, someone should run up a tally of Carrie being badass to having hurt fee-fees. It would not flatter.

And just for the purists out there, they change her secret origin. I won't spoil how it goes in the graphic novel, but here she's escorting a federal prisoner when her partner betrays her and she has to shoot him after he goes for his gun. The partner looks kind of like Joss Whedon, so aside from being a dramatization of how I felt whenever Dollhouse came on, every change made is of the weak.

Although it goes give us the very Police Squad-ish line when Carrie wakes up to see the prisoner's empty handcuffs dangling from where he was sleeping and monologues, without a trace of irony, "I woke up with a bad feeling."


I, personally, have Significant Flashbacks all the time. Like when I got on the computer this morning.

Me: I wonder what that crazy Megan Fox is up to.

*touches mouse*

Flashback Me: I think I'll write a fic about Megan Fox and Olivia Wilde having sex.

Me: Oh yeah, I totally wrote that fic!

Yeah...I thought this would suck. For me I have a thing against gun toting heroines with arms that reasonably couldn't lift them loaded.

White-Out. I got a DVD-release-only out of it for some reason. It was kindda...plain. I began watching Dollhouse (a friend told me it was GOOD! It's NOT!) Kindda like a bad copy of Tru Calling (pretending to be someone else to accomplish her missions, Dushku-style) written by Joss on Prozac lol Maybe Doll is a middle-finger show that Joss gave to Fox to pissed them off? I mean i look at his work on season 8 and his writing, plotting and characters arc are tight. What the hell is that Dollhouse thing?

Total write-off or is there a little entertainment to be extracted?

I haven't read the comic its adapted from, but I quite liked the premise shown in the trailer. Films where the environment is as much of a threat as the other characters have a small spot in my heart.

(And Kate Beckinsale not in a corset shocker!)

Complete and total write-off. If the story interests you, you'd definitely be better off picking up the comics.
