Mar. 22nd, 2008 12:01 amDeception - Generic title aside, Hugh Jackman plays a mysterious stranger (you know the kind) who comes off a little... you-know. Apparently on purpose, because he's a bad guy and bad guys are allowed to be fey in Hollywood movies. He meets up with Geeky!Ewan McGregor, befriends him, induces him into a sex club, and sets him up with hot women to screw. That's so heterosexual you could set your Kinsey Scale by it. Anyway, Ewan falls for a fellow sex clubber, then things naturally go to shit because this isn't the seventies and porn is totally not mainstream (yet in the alternate universe where it is, The Other Boleyn Girl is probably a lot more fun), so films have to have a plot beyond pretty people having lots of sex. Murder, corruption, wrong man accused, frame-job, vigilante justice, yadda yadda. At one point, Hugh will apparently tell Ewan that he wasn't lying, he was having foreplay. Uhhh... !!! Yeah, don't know how someone's Hugh/Ewan conduit-fic RPS got made into a movie.
Nim's Island - Jodie Foster plays a pulp novelist, Romancing-The-Stone-style, whose adventure-seeker-hero is portrayed by Gerard Butler. Naturally, she gets involved in a real adventure with Gerald Butler's character as her spirit guide. So, how butch is Jodie Foster? So butch that her inner monologue is played by EFFING KING LEONIDAS!
Prom Night - If you're making a slasher movie and the rating is PG-13, just go and suffocate yourself in some blueberry pie, because you've failed at life. I know it, Bruce Campbell knows it, and the American people know it.
