Luke: Well, if there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from. Nothing much happens on Tatooine. Oh, sure, sometimes the universe's biggest crime lord (who lives here) throws an incredibly dangerous pod-race full of sabotage and Tusken raider shoot-outs, but there hasn't been one of those since the Queen of Naboo crash-landed here. And you know only one tribe of sand people has been slaughtered to the man by a rogue Jedi Knight? One! Yup, Tatooine... SO. BORING.

In weird ways, Lucas actually manages to create more authentic characters then even HE realizes.
