Even the air of Bacchus was sweet, but Zoë was determined not to smell it. Kaylee had been practically pulling Simon off the ground as soon as the ramp lowered, all sugared up by Inara’s stories. And Jayne had somehow managed to hire a Companion. But Zoë… in Wash’s dreams of the good life, they’d always had a summer home on Bacchus.

She triple-checked the armory and set the recyclers to full.

Mal sat down across from her and began cleaning the rifles.

“Don’t you have anywhere better to be?”

“I surely don’t.”
