Guardians of the Galaxy, eh?
Jun. 29th, 2012 12:02 pmI suppose I'll have to read the comic to figure out how much I should hate it when the movie casts a rapper as... anyone. But I take it GotG is basically Farscape with superheroes? You know, one token human and a bunch of crazy aliens. There's been some talk over the toke humie being Nova or Major Victory--I think I speak for everyone when I say "Who?" Apparently Nova is pretty much a gay Green Lantern... wait, no, I'm just hearing now that he isn't even that interesting. He's a straight Green Lantern.
So here's my proposal. Fuck that shit. Boot Nova or Vance Astro. Put in Carol Danvers. I don't think she really has an iconic origin or arch-nemesis to fill a solo film (you could do it, I mean Iron Man pulled off his own movie, but it'd be hard). So just make her the lead of GotG. She gets into a crazy Kree explosion, the Guardians pick her up, next thing you know she's helping them save the universe as Captain Marvel. You can even keep Major Victory as the leader, put in a little sexual tension between the only two human-looking folks (c'mon, we've seen Farscape, we know how this works).
Then, Avengers 2 rolls around, Carol joins the team. Instant motivation--"I know Thanos. He killed a friend of mine."--and team dynamics--"You idiots need to listen to me, none of you have any idea what you're dealing with." It pulls Guardians of the Galaxy into the Marvel movieverse without having the whole team show up and it makes Avengers 2 less of a sausage-fest. It's like a win/... something.

The fact the writer considered that risk, instantly made him rise in my estimation.
