Expendables only made about 100 million domestic on an 80 million dollar budget. That's dangerously low money, given as a rule of thumb movies need to about double their stated production budget in box office to cover marketing costs and whatever other bullshit studios stuff in there. It was rescued by 174 million in foreign box office, but even that's kind of meh money for a blockbuster action flick theoretically aimed at the fat stupid middle of the male audience.
