Reactions to Doctor-Daughter Day remain mixed. But one thing I don't get is commenting on the fake-cutted post instead of the fic entry itself. Is it a courtesy thing, so in coming months when you go back to check all your precious, precious feedback you won't be soiled by "EW ICK!" comments (umm... not that I do that)? Is it just cowardice, keeping your comments where they won't be read and scrutinized by people who actually do appreciate the work in question?

Regardless, in addition to the usual "OH NOES BRAIN BLEACH" comments, there were one or two that made me lol. (I won't post usernames, because I'm not looking for trouble.)

You know when they warn about photos of dead cats and there are tons of signs that say, "DON'T LOOK!" but, of course, you look anyway?

Yeah.

I must say, I like the "5 star/4 star/3 star/2 star/1 star/DEAD CATS" rating system.

I threw up in my mouth a little. And no I won't read it. Makes Doctor/Donna seem realistic.

Not the bodily fluid I was going for, I must admit. But oooh, douche-chill on Doctor/Donna shippers. You know that one episode of the Simpsons where Nelson calls Bart a chicken and a chicken randomly says "That's insulting to both of us!"

Dear God, this is how it starts, isn't it? People start writing their own Ten/Jenny (or Tenny) fics, there get to be Tenny BNFs who credit me with inventing the genre. Then Moffet makes Jenny the S5 companion and who gets recced for old-school Tenny? Me. I get to be known as the evil genius who invented Tenny.

Well, at least I won't be credited with inventing some silly portmanteau ship name like...

So nice of you to spare those other posters' delicate sensibilities, when you posted my reply on metaquotes. :)

And people who hate on the Doctor/Donna ship need to step the fuck off.

If the hate is coming from Doctor/Rose shippers, they need to wrap their brains around the fact that the show they're fangirling has had roughly eleventy baskrillion Doctor/companion ships before their precious OTP came along. And if the hate is coming from Doctor/Martha shippers, they need to check themselves for behaving as badly as the Doctor/Rose shippers behaved towards them.

Do I miss Martha? Yes! Do I wish that Ten would have eventually made lovey-dovey eyes at her just as much as he did towards Rose? YES! But I'm not going to hold it against Donna, or wish to deny Ten and Donna their ship. Back in the day, when I was a little boy, I loved Sarah Jane so much that I'm pretty sure she was one of the first fictional characters I wanted to be my girlfriend, but I NEVER held it against Leels for taking her place.

That being said, since Donna is departing under no doubt tragic circumstances at the end of this season, I'd find it karmically amusing if the next companion is a young, slim, more conventionally pretty blonde, who nurses an unrequited crush on the Doctor, which he doesn't notice because he spends all next season mooning over his lost Donna, all while making facial expressions that indicate that Donna was his OMG TWOO WUV.

So, I guess the tl;dr version of this would be to say this to NuWho fandom:

DONNA IS ALLOWED TO BE MORE THAN A YENTA FOR YOUR FAVORITE SHIPS.

I'm always really suprised when people are disgusted by pairings. I guess I've spent too much time in HP fandom reading snapledore, Hagrid/Umbridge/Filch threesomes and the continuing saga of Aberforth and his goat. Nothing shocks me anymore. As long as it's well written it doesn't bother me who the characters are. And it can still be hot.

Plus, if something disgusts them then why the hell are they reading it?
