There's a BND character, Norah Winters, who is written as a hipster racist, saying things like "Lay off the rice and beans" to Latina characters and "a colored person might talk to me" when left alone in a bad part of town. This is where, if I were a comic writer, I'd start writing her as a full-blown racist. Robbie Robertson comes into her shop to drop off an assignment for Peter and she turns the radio to gangsta rap "to be polite." A snippet of an ending conversation we catch is "so you see, slavery wasn't that bad." She doesn't like Idris Elba (how else would you explain it? HOW ELSE WOULD YOU EXPLAIN IT?).

Then, when the internet got in an uproar and editorial demanded an explanation, I'd light a cigarette (I don't smoke, but for the occasion...) and say "Continuity, baby."

I mean, there's a reason that, if I write a race joke, I try to put it in the mouth of a bastard character and have a sweetheart character frown at it or call him out later. And even then, that's exactly the kind of humor I would try to keep out of an all-ages title. No one wants to read Big Barda making jokes about fried chicken.
