Is it true that in Britain, there are people getting pregnant (well, women getting pregnant... hopefully) to score free housing? Because if it is, Doctor Who really needs to get on that.
I'd like to say no, its true that single mums do go up higher on the list for a council house, which technically isnt free its owned by the council. Getting pregnant deliberately to get a council house...yeah I can see that.
Id like to say it's all a lie that you'd read in the daily mail. That's my official position. However, in my work with the Community and Sexual Health team I have in fact met young women who outright say they got pregnant in order to secure council housing. Many just wanted a house of their own away from their family who themselves are often on benefits. Sigh. It's hard to know what to do, in order to raise people's expectations of themselves, especially when they have no home support.
And I'd say that the Dr should get on that, but I doubt Schroedinger's council house would be of any use to him.
Oh, and read Richard Littlejohn's column to be further infuriated by the fact that this guy makes obscene amounts of money and a good portion of Britain take his opinions as truth. I consider his piece on the Ipswich murders to be his magnum opus.
