It's kind of infuriating, because they clearly know That show is baked into the DNA of the show they're currently making, and I think, deep down, gun to their heads, they'd admit that That show would be...truer (and consequently better) than the show they're currently making, which is pleasant enough and decent enough but is wasting energy and acting chemistry and the time of perfectly blameless male guest actors, all in the effort to not just make That show The show.
