Adventures in Betaing!

So I was going through some old e-mails, looking for a file, when I saw some messages I'd exchanged from someone on LJ. I'm not going to say her name, I'm not calling her out or anything, so let's just call her a Wonder Woman fan. Now this WW fan was well-known in fannish circles for her in-depth analysis of comics. Now, we weren't close or anything, but she'd liked some of my stories and I'd liked some of hers, and I'd just finished the first draft of this book, so I asked her if maybe she would like to take a look at it. She said yeah, so I sent it to her.
She never got back to me. It's been, like, a whole year, no joy. But then I think this might be a good thing.
Critic: OMG, I read your book and how could you *insert Terry Goodkind-y thing here*?
Me: Well, I sent my first draft to a well-respected feminist to see if there was anything misogynistic in it. She didn't say anything, so I assumed it was hunky-dory.
And just like that, the rage alights from me and settles on someone else. Criticism: deflected.
Next time on Adventures in Betaing: PoC... or DOA?
