Ever pissed someone off online? Well, you should know that it's far easier to cast a spell than people realize. You don't need blood or hair or even the real name of a target, just the true name, a name they've chosen for themselves. A username, say.

And no one uses voodoo dolls or anything like that. That's centuries out of date. The most popular spell these days is one you'd never even notice. You're teleported into a parallel world while you sleep, one so like your own that you'd never even notice. In fact, the only real difference is the monsters. They're real in the other world. All of them. Each night, they kill and maim, and another thousand people become missing persons. It's only a matter of time until someone in this other world meets one.

But of course, you haven't pissed anyone off on the web, have you?
