What I don't understand is why DC is so resistant to a permanent switch to the pteruges/modified breastplate Magical Mediterranean Warrior Princess look. 90 percent of the good fannish WW reimagining/costume contests have that look. DC itself goes with a variant of that look every time they want to stick Diana in a particularly epic "Maximum-Amazon-War-Times" situation. It's a look that still allows for some leg and boobs, god knows they won't part with that, yet it fits culturally and is fairly sensible fighting gear (to the extent superhero costumes are ever practical to begin with).
I don't care how iconic it is (and god bless Lynda Carter in her satin tights fighting for our rights, she was certainly a key part of puberty for me), the Star Spangled bathing suit just doesn't work in 2010, and won't work on the big screen if that's where they're going.
