God, this was a boring episode. For some reason, the main plot was everyone fearing that a substitute teacher (Darla!) was an alien hunter zeroing in on Michael when really she was just concerned with his attendance problems. Julia Benz hasn't been this wasted since the season finale of Dexter. Oh!
Following up on the pilot, everyone got together to investigate the pictures the Sheriff has of an alien murder victim, and managed to purloin a ~mysterious key, which gave Michael psychic hot flashes. So not only are the aliens psychic and able to manipulate matter, but they can also CSI things with their minds.
90s Moment of the Episode: Isabelle touches the key, fakes a psychic O, and says she saw "Ricky Martin in the shower." Uh, don't get your hopes up, dear.
Also, the theme song is the 90siest, phlegmiest song ever produced. I never really liked the Smallville theme, but it's fucking Metallica compared to this.
ETA: Oh, I forgot. The big deal this episode is that Max asks Liz to go with him to the eraser room, which is the school's official "make-outs and more!" emporium. Liz's wacky female friend (every WB female lead has one. Gives her someone to talk about boys with) tells her that if she goes there, she'll be a slut, but when Liz shows up, Max just wants to spy on Darla, whose office is next door and connected by a vent. So, people have lost their virginity in a room that is only separated from the faculty offices by a screen? I'm disturbed on multiple levels.
