Best wank ever! I swear to God, this is ORGASMIC! And of course, it's Supernatural.

Supernatural RIPS FAMILIES APART!

I swear, only Supernatural fandom could make me take the side of Supernatural the show.

That is, possibly, the dumbest thing I've read in awhile. Wow.

SPN fans are FUCKIN' CRAZY. There's a very good reason I distance myself from the fandom.

I know, right? It's like

Rage.

And here we have fully 50% of what I loathe about the OTW, whose membership seems to be well-represented in the comments. Your hobby is not your sexual orientation. There is not going to be a civil rights crusade over fanfic.

(The really annoying thing is that they do have a really important point about societal suppression of feminine expressions of sexuality, but it's buried under enough bullshit and entitlement to fertilize a field.)

Swear to god, as a queer person reading things like that, I start to understand on an emotional level what it's like for a black person to hear a gay white person start yapping about how our struggle is completely like the Civil Rights movement and it's totally cool for us to co-opt whatever language we want.

There needs to be a sign that says "You are not being oppressed because your hobby is weird." You have a kooky fantasy life and you're afraid people don't understand, like, the real you? Welcome to the 21st century, please retain your ticket stub.

It doesn't even make sense internally. So SPN did an episode that was about fanfic, lol Wincest. Some people who'd never heard of fanfic heard of fanfic. Oh noes, fanfic isn't secret anymore! People who don't know the handshake might sneak into the club.

That's a stupid thing to freak over, but I at least understand freaking, you know? It's traditional.

Except. The OP, most of the people she thanks in the notes, and at least a plurality of the commenters are members of an organization dedicated to raising public awareness of fanfic. How are they even pissed about this, aside from some possibly understandable upset at the show laughing at them rather than with them?

I know, I know. I'm expecting logic. I'm bringing it on myself.

What, you wouldn't abandon your infant child if you found out your spouse wrote Wincest? Is that your final answer?

Is it unreasonable to think that, if you can't let your spouse find out about fanfic lest it destroy your marriage, your marriage has worse problems than fanfic? I mean, I'm absolutely certain there are people in their situation, but, Christ. Fanfic isn't the root of that problem. It's not even the trunk.

Exactly. And again, that brand of thinking has so many different striations of mental problems attached to it that it's practically a dysfunction limestone.

You think your spouse will hate you and leave you for the fanfic you're writing? What does that say about your spouse? What does that say about what you THINK of your spouse? What does that say about you that you stay with someone you think that about? What does that say about you that you keep doing something you think could make that happen? What does that say about what you really think of what you're doing?

Like I said below, they're INVENTING new ways to be neurotic over there.

Oh god. That comic, and the responses to it, are so facepalmworthy in so many different ways and on so many different levels that the sound of hand striking forehead would resonate across frequencies that we haven't even discovered them all yet. You would be able to track the path of the soundwaves from that facepalm and find out that there's actually a level of hearing called Hyperultramegasound.

The other night I was talking (very geekishly) with a friend about holodecks, and how you'd practically have to invent a whole new kind of psychiatry to deal with the issues. Not just what the show mentioned, Holodeck Addiction, but where do you fit in people who are deathly afraid of someone finding out what they do on the holodeck? Where do you fit in someone that's deathly afraid but at the same time TURNED ON by someone finding out? Is someone who's certain that somebody will come along and turn off the safeties without them knowing just paranoid, or is it a whole new type of paranoia? (Or a legitimate fear?)

The reason this ties in is because those... those... FEN are over there inventing new ways to have a persecution complex. "Oh it is so hard for a woman to snatch the merest sliver of pleasure in the demanding, freedomless wasteland that is marriage!" "Oh, we are so persecuted for our art! Our pornographic, incestual art!" "My straight husband wouldn't read my gay incestuous BDSM fic. Can you believe that? LOL!!!"

Just... just... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

(Also, this should be the definition of a fandom wank. Not just "a flame war that someone decided we'd all laugh at". Because that right there is a perfect storm of circlejerking.)

Also, I have to take a moment to address the "art".

What many in the comments have called "hauntingly beautiful" and "striking", I call for what it is... a poorly photoshopped photo comic. The look of it screams of taking photos and throwing a layer over them, then adding strategic lines around various features and using shape tools to create the colors and whatnot.

(Also love the bits about scolding the show creator for being a "bad fan", how it's a "sin", and saying that he'd be "kicked out" if he was a regular fan. Just... just... god dammit. Supernatural fans should not be able to show up the writers of Left Behind for sheer WTFery.)
