Hell, I've met fangirls who seem to have that philosophy. I just didn't think it would show up in a community dedicated to feminism. It's like thinking that the X-men mutants are metaphors for Creationists. Like, if you're that stupid, you get kicked out of the club.

That's a long-running debate in feminism. We're talking a couple of hundred years long. It covers a lot of ground. I'm on the side of "Sure, men can be feminists" but those on the other side aren't just making unsupported arguments. They're making arguments I believe fail to convince, but I see where they're coming from, at least.

I'm not gonna lie. I've met some idiots that tried to use the feminist card on me every time I disagreed with them----kind of like, you know, those Republicans that claim they're not prejudiced against gay people because they have gay friends and gay family members, never mind that endorsing anti-gay policies is prejudice, and whatnot.

That said, I've also met really cool male feminists, who show that being a feminist should not be gender exclusive. Feminism being gender exclusive is completely contradictory.

I'm definitely on the side all for male feminists.

There are strands of feminism that simply want to be the ones in control rather than go for equality - even at a case more extreme than possible there, it's possible to be a Jewish Neo-Nazi (note: I'm explicitely not saying feminists are Nazis - I'm saying that if there are Jewish Neo-Nazis then a male feminist of the less sane variety is no problem at all). A good way to find such strands of non-egalitarian feminist is to look for the truly epic Trans!Fail of certain prominant feminists.

So with the small caveat, and that I'm unsurprised to see LJ spotlight writers sucking, I agree with you.

I don't necessarily see it as 'mutually exclusive' or anti-male so much as an attempt at curbing so called posters calling themselves male feminists from attempting to derail feminist conversations by, once again, making it all about men. Which is something that friggin' happens ALL THE TIME in feminist conversations.

If that's the case, then they picked just about the worst way to phrase it (and in the one paragraph meant to convince people to join). It's like going from "everyone holds subconscious racist beliefs due to latent social programming" to "why do you hate black people?"
