Why is it that whenever someone says "I appreciate your enthusiasm," my enthusiasm feels oh so very unappreciated?

Because it means "I appreciate your enthusiasm most of the time, but not right now." :)

Some folks just aren't wired that way. I know I used to be pretty bad for it. Been working to improve that.
