Supernatural 5x09 - The Real Ghostbusters
You guys, Supernatural is Serious Art that inspires people to be better!
Yeah. What was... one-note. There are certain expectations for a meta show. You poke some fun at yourself, you make some in-jokes, we laugh, and on we move. Supernatural is the only show I can think of where they actually berate the audience for being their audience. On the one hand, it is lulzy that even Supernatural knows how crazy Supernatural fandom is, but on the other hand... dude, do you really think there are a bunch of cowboys and SWAT commandoes who finish up a hard day of supermodel-fucking with a vodka martini and an episode of Supernatural? Your fanbase is your fanbase. Ignore 'em, pander to 'em, just stop with the meta. I could forgive it if it were funny, but the only joke was a Family Guy kinda remember when this happened? humor where day players reenacted moments from earlier seasons. Oh, and gay jokes, because... they suck cock! Hilarious!
Anyone remember when the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse got loose? Rode around in muscle cars? You'd think they'd be up to something.
It's kinda weird that in an episode mocking fanfiction, the main plot seems to be hooking up the prophet with Becky the wince-inducing superfan, which is a story that's one misspelled summary away from![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
fanficrants. Overall, even with the Galaxy Quest rip-off ending, this was pretty tame. I mean, what can you really say about an episode that answers a really confusingly worded "self-parody" (a female fan objects to another fan calling out Ruby's "obvious evilness") with "If you don't like the show, stop watching it"? Now I know how liberals felt when Bush couldn't think of any mistakes he'd made during his presidency.
Legend of the Seeker 2x02 - Baneling
Apparently, if Richard Cypher had fought in World War 2, he would've ended it by blowing up a concentration camp with Nazi zombies still inside. That was pretty great, aside from the "lulzy" scene where Cara had to seduce someone into cooperating with her. He was tortured in a death camp, she's a fanatic assassin who's committed unspeakable atrocities... I smell hijinx!
The good stuff!
*Cara uses two Agiels at once. Because Cara knows that lots of things are more fun if you use two at once.
*Cara's "Kahlan told me to be more compassionate!" excuse to Richard. That hatesex I ordered is coming along nicely.
*I like how our heroes are all pragmatic enough to say "Okay, we need to kill someone... fuck it, let's go get a D'Haran." While at the same time the show isn't dark enough to make them kill an old man or something for answers. Thanks for not being BSG, show!
*Richard can javelin the Sword of Truth into war criminals' chests. EPIC.
*THE KID IS A FUCKING BANELING! HOLY SHIT, SHOW, YOU WENT THERE!
The not so good!
*So no matter how good or bad you are, you end up in Midlands-hell when you die? I'm assuming that it's a kind of purgatory where you're cleansed of your sins before moving on to the Spirits, otherwise... damn. Depressing. Don't be depressing, show, you're my cheesy epic goodness!
*Shut up, thief guy. Honestly, I did not know I could think "That guy deserves to be in a death camp," but here we are. Dude, you're stealing from concentration camp victims. Stop being so smug. There could be some drama in that, someone who's just become completely cynical and self-serving because of his ordeal, and then gets dragged kicking and screaming into everybody else's heroic quest, but instead we get stupid jokes about how just because Cara is a victim/victimizer remnant of an evil dictatorship, She's All Woman. Do not make Cara fall in love with him, show. I would rather see her fuck Trianna. Yes, I know Trianna's dead.

*But now we have a Ranger (Richard), a Paladin (Kahlan), a Wizard (Zedd), an Assassin (Cara), and a Rogue (Douchebag McSucksburger). How long until LOTS gets its own "Darth and Droids" comic? "Confessor and Cara"? "Seeker and Sword of Truth"?
