Summary: It’s amazing how easy someone can fit back into your life.

Mary-Jane stands there a minute, holding the wedding bouquet, looking like a million dollars, before she starts strutting and the crowd parts like the Red Sea. She tosses the flowers over her shoulder as she reaches Peter.

“You learn how to dance yet?” she asks, smile as bright as the sun on a summer day.

“As a matter of fact…”

He takes her slender hand in his, places the other on her thigh. Her eyebrows arch at his familiarity, but that's only ever meant approval. The band starts playing again (did they ever actually stop?) and everything else is just following the dance steps.

***

He gives her the Cliff’s Notes of Aunt May and John Jonah Jameson (“Poor baby,” she coos amusedly when he mentions the part about… interrupting them). They break for champagne and sandwiches. It’s a bit of a shock to find out that the dance floor is empty and the party has well and truly ended. Mary-Jane swipes a wine bottle from its ice bucket before a janitor can get to it and they pop the cork on the steps outside. Peter doesn’t need a corkscrew, and he managed to grab two glasses.

“So, where are you staying?” he asks.

“Where would you like me to stay?”

***

“This part sucks as much as I remember.”

Peter looks at her, the window in front of him ready to be opened, his mask in his hands. He offers her a rueful smile. “I thought you were asleep.”

“Put it on,” she says, walking to him.

Peter does, hoping he doesn’t scare her.

Mary-Jane smoothes the mask out, picks a bit of lint off it. “You look good.” Her mouth touches his through the fabric. “Be careful out there.”

“Always.”

***

Felicia is beautiful in the day, jaw-dropping in the moonlight. Her body was made to be seen against the night sky.

“And what are you doing out here then?” she asks after he’s told her about MJ and they’ve foiled a museum heist.

“Well, you did notice the crooks we just caught, right?”

“They’d be just as caught tomorrow night.”

Some brief acrobatics take him under a window arch, the kind of privacy you can only get at night. Felicia is next to him in an instant.

“You’re telling me I should get back together with her.”

“It’s the way of the world. She’s good for you. I’m bad for you.”

“I don’t think you’re bad for me.”

“I know.” Her smile is more enigmatic than sad. “The kind of man you want to be, she’s good for that. I’m not. It’s the choice you made, a long time ago.”

“And what kind of man do you want me to be?”

She stops smiling. “Mine.” A grapple-line shoots out, prepared to carry her away. “I made a choice too, you know. You can never really tame a cat.”

And she’s gone.

***

When Mary-Jane wakes up, Peter has fixed eggs and bacon. She walks in on him squeezing fresh orange juice. His arms look nice when he does that.

“I know what you’re doing,” she says.

“What am I doing?” he asks, sounding curious.

She takes the glass he’s just made. “It’s working, just so you know.”

“That was for me, actually.”

She takes a long drink.

***

After he kisses her, she says “About time,” and kisses him back.

He really can’t remember why they broke up. Can’t be too important.
