There's this one comment I've seen cropping up a lot in this whole brouhaha, which is "His jokes weren't even funny!" Which strikes me as a weird stance to take for several reasons, not the least of which being that this was all based on a paraphrasing from a gay man writing about how offended he was by Tracy Morgan's act. So... what were you expecting?

"Yes, he said several things I consider hateful to my lifestyle and damaging to an oppressed minority. But other than that, DELIGHTFUL WITTICISMS!"

>A studio spent two hundred million dollars on this movie.
>Farscape was made ten years ago for the Sci-Fi Channel back when it didn't have the budget to afford Ys.
>It had a bunch of Muppets that looked a lot better than the ones in Green Lantern.

In fact, wasn't that one of the big criticisms of the Star Wars prequels, as opposed to the original trilogy, that there was so much CGI that the world didn't feel real (to the point that Lucas and Spielberg lied about the amount of CGI in Indiana Jones 4 to get people to see it)? So if you're setting out to make a Star Wars superhero movie, wouldn't you want the world to feel as aged and textured as possible? I'm just saying, why can't Kilowog be a guy in a suit? Maybe get someone really thin to play Tomar Re and then CGI his legs? And the Guardians are pretty much midgets with body paint. Anything to avoid the feel that you're watching someone with CGI clothes on a green screen talking to a bunch of motion-capture suits. Maybe then you don't have to spend as much money on the whole thing, so the movie will turn more of a profit.

Also, before you pay an actress to say the line "You have the ability to overcome great fear," find one Earth human who would phrase that sentiment in that way. If you can't, don't put it in the trailer.

ETA: Also, even Tron: Legacy managed to pull off giving people clothes that glow. And that was a movie that couldn't even manage "letting Michael Sheen be likable and charming."

So, in case you haven't been following comics (like, they're about to be rendered irrelevant in a few months' time), the latest issue of Red Robin ends with a villainess disrobing in front of a captive Tim Drake and announcing she plans to bear his child, whether he likes it or not, if you know what I mean and I've read your fics so I know you do.

I just wanna say this. Fangirls, if your reaction to that cliffhanger is making jokes about how homosexual Tim is for not wanting to be raped, don't attack fanboys for making 'death by snuu-snuu' jokes. Instead, let's focus on what we all have in common: thinking rape jokes are hilarious.

So the news is that Tom Cruise wants to play Jack Reacher of pulp literature fame, which is great casting if you've never read the books. The character is basically this man's man, big guy, rip-your-face-off-if-you've-hurt-a-woman type, and Tom Cruise could get into a fair fight with a twelve-year-old girl.

So, as someone who has read the books, I was thinking of who would make a good Reacher. The usual suspects are Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, those types, but you've gotta admit they lack a certain sangfroid. Then I thought Idris Elba.

Let's see: Badass, check. Intelligent, check. Looks like he could step on Tom Cruise, check. And for the ladies, he could get it... check. I'm normally not one for raceboots (to paraphrase Jeff Winger, "CREATE SOME ORIGINAL CHARACTERS!"), but goddamn, that movie would be perfect.
