So I just read a racewank post that said the phrase "the pot calling the kettle black" is racist.

This show is so weird for me. I'm giving it at least until Artemis shows up to pick up, but...

Okay, first off, the premise has the Teen Titans Young Justice as sort of a black ops division of the Justice League commanded by Batman for the sidekicks. Isn't that the weirdest, most nonsensical direction you could pick for a Teen Titans show? As far as putting untrained superheroes into fucked-up situations? In the last episode we got a look at how this was supposed to work, with YJ sent to do recon on a banana republic, and naturally ending up having to stop an evil plot.

I hate to nitpick a children's cartoon too much, but since YJ is obviously aimed at adults some, I will--why do you need to send the whole team to gather information? Even if they all have toyetic black costumes, they don't have experience with that. Why not just send in the girl who can turn invisible AND telepathically project what she's seeing and hearing to other people. At most, send Robin with her, since he can do the stealth thing too. Why would you even need to take Superboy along? In case someone has to punch-out noise? Hold him and the other non-stealth people in reserve in case things get hairy.

2. Wouldn't a more obvious premise be to have YJ investigate the "small fish" of the criminal underworld, so they can (theoretically) gain experience while not tangling with the Big Bads? Like, if someone steals a superweapon from Cadmus Labs, the Justice League is on it, but if someone steals a vacuum cleaner, they delegate it to YJ. And of course, our heroes find out that Dr. Nogoodnik is going to use the vacuum cleaner to take over the world because his wife was killed by a vacuum cleaner or something. And by taking a closer look at the small stuff, YJ is able to figure out the conspiracy that the Justice League can't see through the trees?

3. In possibly one of the weirdest scenes in the DC universe, a conflict between Kid Flash and Robin over who should lead the team resolves in Aqualad "accepting the burden" because it's cool to only have a token black guy if he's the one in charge. However, Aqualad goes on to say that the 13-year-old boy that likes to laugh and throw Batarangs into people is the real leader, that he was "born to lead" YJ, and so Aqualad will basically keep the seat warm for him. Now, Doylistically, this makes a little sense. They're saying (like, out loud. As in, paid voice actor reading the lines) that Robin will be growing up and eventually taking charge of YJ. In Watsonian terms... holy shit.

Okay, why is Robin a natural leader? He doesn't seem to be any more respected, popular, or even strategically-minded than anyone else. At least Miss Martian can bake cookies. So why wouldn't Aqualad just perpetually be the leader? And they're not just saying "I have a feeling someday you'll be a great leader, Robin." I mean, I get that they're reassuring fans about Robin not being the leader, but wouldn't a better forum to do that be in an online interview, since anyone who would care about Robin not being the leader would probably pay attention to that stuff?

4. Okay, not to harp on the "why is it called Young Justice!?" thing anymore (although, seriously, why do you call him Superboy if he's some douchey bad boy?), but in the comics, Wonder Girl was the leader for a while. Why wouldn't that work, instead of creating an entirely new character to play the boring authority figure? There was a Wonder Girl on both Young Justice and Teen Titans, so this whole retro G1 Teen Titans thing would work with her, it's in-character for her to be mature and responsible, and the crush on Kon gives her some personality. I mean, who knows what the kids these days are into, but "fearless leader in battle, nervous about talking to a guy she likes" would make for a pretty relatable character, right?

Henry Cavil as Superman.

For a minute there, I was really worried it was going to be Matthew Goode. Cavil looks the part and he's apparently a pretty good actor. Move excitement level to "tentative."
