So perhaps you've heard of an upcoming horror movie called The Woman, which premiered at Sundance and so far has gotten attention for being the most likely staged subject of a man's rant about how rapelicious it is (they couldn't have sprung for a woman? I can think of a few who'd do it for free). Then an article on the rant is posted on ONTD and an internet barfight erupts between those who haven't seen the movie and those who haven't seen the movie. So at this point, I think it's likely the movie ends with Cthulu busting through the wall of the rape room like the Kool-Aid Man. "Oh R'lyeh!", and just by making this post I'll be getting comments full of "YOU IN DANGER, GIRL" gifs and spam in Naacal.
But, there is one quotable quote to be had from the film's director.
HYB: I have also noticed that most of your films feature lesbian characters, seemingly not for the sake of titillation, but for the sake of being diverse. What is your reasoning behind this?
LK: I’m not going to lie. Titillation IS a part of it. I’m a guy. Sorry. BUT…that being said, if you’re gonna’ do it, have sympathy for your characters and don’t be an exploitative asshole. Make it genuine. It exists and there’s nothing wrong with it, contrary to a lot of people’s beliefs.
I think that's about 90% of the Metafandom posts on slash, unless I've missed my guess and yaoi fangirls have found John Barrowman grievously unattractive all this time.
ETA: While we're on the subject of rape, the Star Wars prequels attempted kissing bandit needs to be a meme. It can mean, uh, "a character who has canonically attempted sexual assault of his or her own free will, despite the narrative's later attempts to handwave this aspect of their character without having them take responsibility for their actions." Noun.
