I think it would be pretty cool if the first movie's villain were Artemis.
Yeah, I know, it should be an adaptation of George Perez's origin stories - probably without the whole "I can't believe you Amazons wanted vengeance after you were raped! BANISHED!" part - but Wondy does need someone superpowered to whale on. So Artemis and the Bana-Midghall (I've learned to spell Themyscira, but I'm never going to get that) are being manipulated by Ares. Who, incidentally, is a dead ringer for Kevin McKidd in his Greg Rucka incarnation. Not dream-casting, just saying.
And at the end of the movie, after a few fight scenes and establishing Artemis as a sympathetic, but misguided villain, Diana manages to convince her that Ares is trouble and totally subverts the "superhero movie must end with the villain being inadvertently killed" cliche. Ares is defeated, the countdown is averted, the Bana-Midghall return to Paradise Island, and Diana starts writing a book. And from there you can do Circe, Cheetah, all that good stuff, with Artemis in her rightful place as Diana's partner.
So we get some cool badass girlfights, another interesting female character for the cast, and a subplot that you could only really do with Diana (can you really see Batman convincing a villain that she's misguided and needs a hug?). EVERYBODY WINS. AGAIN.
