Don't you think it's a touch on-the-nose that this weekend, we've seen two female-led action movies and a period piece with a predominantly African-American cast hit... but in the middle of January, the studio's dumping ground? And Haywire and Underworld are both incredibly different from each other. In Underworld, Kate Beckinsale is hypersexualized (a catsuit and a corset), while Gina Carono is... not desexualized in the way, say, Michelle Rodriguez might be, but sexualized in the same way as Daniel Craig might be. "Look at this badass motherfucker and how good his ass looks in leather." In Underworld, Beckinsale's chief goal is defending her daughter, while Carono has to save her father from government gun-thugs. Hmm...
