Green Hornet

seriousficThis is going to be a short review, so to make this post worth your time, here's a picture of Jennifer Tilly dressed like a gangster.
I think we can all agree that's hot. Even you asexuals must be going "damn, that's a nice suit."
Anyway, Green Hornet, actually a lot better than you'd think. It basically take the square peg of the slacker comedy bromance and puts it in the round hole of the standard superhero formula (daddy issues, dead loved one angst, and so on). You know, like Watchmen and Kick-Ass and countless comic books have tried to do. It's just that this movie really nails the balance between playing things straight and incorporating ridiculousness like a prepubescent vigilante (there are points at the movie that are really shockingly dark).
Really, part of the fun is seeing a bunch of people who know better just cutting loose and having fun. Between Michael Gondry's visual weirdness, Christoph Waltz's performance as an aspiring supervillain, and the traditional Seth Rogen comedy, I think it's destined to be a cult classic, if not a legitimate hit. And really, it's good to see anyone tinkering with the formula, Green Lantern.
