Tonight on Smallville, Clark puts the whole world in a bottle

This episode was really too creepy. I mean, forget the weiner-biting sorority vampires and the glam rock Scottish ghost, TPTB's idea of a healthy relationship is genuinely scary. The extent to which Clark plays mind games with Lois and actively destroys something that she's passionate about because he should be the most important thing in her life, is a lot more sinister than Zod could ever hope to be. And the scene where he says he and Lois are going to tell each other their secrets, except it's only a pretense to get her to spill the beans because that's better than following her around to find out what she's keeping from him (i.e. her privacy), right? Well, nothing this season has made me want to smack Zod.

In further depressingness, Lois actively tries not to find out Superman's identity. Because that would be conflict, and conflict would be interesting.

Although I will admit, the scene where Clark says he can't tell Lois his secret because it'll put her in danger... and he's talking to Chloe... that was supposed to make me laugh, right? "I can't put Lois in danger! I love her! By the way, Chloe, how's it going with my secret identity? Is the Blur on TV Tropes?"

I wonder if this is some strange sort of worship of the Golden/Silver Age rearing its head, where they're intentionally invoking the Superdickery style of Clark being a cock to everyone...?

Not even Chloe--given that Clark has just rescued Lois from a situation where even just being associated with the Blur got her kidnapped, it's ridiculous to think that her knowing his identity will somehow put her in more danger. Clearly Lord didn't wait kidnap her and then say "oh hai, actually she doesn't fully know the Blur's identity, putting her back now!" The link with the Blur already makes her Prime Target #1 if you want to get to the Blur. I mean, there's dumb, and then there's dumb.

(Also, Clark's insistence on his super sekkrit identity is the height of unbelievable given that he doesn't wear a mask.)

I only watched the last half-hour, but I still think this ep shorted something in my brain. I mean, none of that made any sort of sense. Even for the Smallville version of 'sense' (and as you know, that's saying something). And with Lois's weird speech about how being the Blur's sidekick is all noble and gives her life meaning or whatever and how she doesn't want to know who he is because that will keep her safe...just, WTF? I can't even - what? This was an episode so bad that it successfully put the TWoP recapper into a spiral of confusion, despair, and drink. So...I guess it accomplished something?

LOL! Smallville seems to be going downhill. They are renewing another season, so I really hope that things get better. If not...yikes...
