I must say, one of the subtle pluses of a Smallville S1 AU (besides, for research, watching the show back when it was good and coulda been a contender) is that EVERYONE = VIRGIN. It's like, you get to have your smutty schmoopy first-time fic and it's totally justified by its place in the big serious drama fic. Now I just have to figure out the time and place, but oh, the possibilities.

Davis: BY MAGICAL PLOT CONTRIVANCE, I AM SUDDENLY FREE OF MY DOOMSDAYNESS! I'm free! No more killing! No more uncontrollable rage! No more post-kill quips, I might miss that part. I can do whatever I want with my life! Absolutely anything!

Chloe: (five miles away) Why are my panties rumbling?

Davis: ANTICIPATION.

And I've reached a good end/stopping point for the story, which is always nice to write. It really is almost more of a transformative work than a fanfic, which has me thinking about how fanfic is easier to write than shows? Because as cliche as it is, fandom is a community and you know your audience. I mean, if someone reading this was asked to write a fanfic for me, they'd probably have a pretty good idea what I wanted (unless they were my Yuletide writer. Ba dum tish!). So I have a pretty good idea what someone who would read a Davis-centric S1 AU would want to see and who they would like to... not see. Cough. Cough. Lana Lang. Cough.

Now, if you asked me to write something for males ages 18-35... well, okay, I'd probably just throw in a lot of jokes and sex and violence. Males 18-35? Not the most complicated bunch. There's a reason presidents tend to be men over forty. It's called masturbation.

Wait a minute! You mean that Davis . . . WON'T be in love with Lana Lang in your AU?! I find this highly implausible! I could make a chart tallying the number of people on the show and correlate it to the number of people who love Lana Lang; I think you'll see the statistical improbability of what you're saying. In smallville there are MORE people in love with Lana Lang than there are people! It makes for some unusual standard deviations.

No, what your fic clearly needs is MORE Lana Lang. Thank god I got here in time!
