I mean, remember that quote where J-Law met Woody Harrellson and asked “Is that a sex swing?” Everyone went “Ha ha, she’s so wild and crazy and funny.” If Megan Fox had said that, everyone would’ve gone “wow, what a slut.”
And I’m sure some of it is how the actresses (and/or their PR team/agents/reps/what have you) choose to present themselves. I know Jennifer Lawrence probably goes to a gym for three hours every day before she drops a bon mot about how she loves to sit at home and eat ice cream, and that Megan Fox probably tells stories to Maxim about making out with Russian strippers when she really spent a whole day lying on the couch watching The Golden Girls. It’s about what fits the public persona they’re trying or feel they have to sell. Remember the time Kristen Stewart fumbled an MTV Movie Award because “I’M SO KLUTZY AND AWKWARD JUST LIKE BELLA SWAN”?
But what’s with the way the public perceives that and goes “Jennifer’s awesome, Megan’s a slut”? People talk about what a heroine Jennifer Lawrence is for not starving herself, but no one says anything about how Megan Fox lost her part in Transformers 3 because she was sick of being objectified by Michael Bay (or because Steven Spielberg pretty sanctimoniously decided to fire her). Or how Jennifer Lawrence kinda sorta played a Magical Pixie Dream Girl to a standard-issue dude in Silver Livings Playbook, while Megan Fox played a monster opposite a female lead in Jennifer’s Body.
And don’t say it’s about acting talent excusing behavior. I’m not saying Megan Fox is as good an actress as Jennifer Lawrence, but clearly, people love Jennifer Lawrence’s behavior in addition to her acting talent, not in spite of it. So… what is it?
