So the latest episode of Revolution reveals that the Black-Out was caused by a secret project meant to create clean energy, but that ended up creating a power-suppression field of some kind (man, clean energy, what can't it do? Over in the Marvel universe, that stuff can power robot-clothes and open portals to hell-dimensions, in The Dark Knight Rises it can blow up all of Gotham, if they ever get an Archie movie made clean energy will probably be able to sate Jughead's endless, Lovecraftian hunger).

Naturally, Colm Feore is on hand as a DOD representative who wants to turn the project into a weapon, to Elizabeth Mitchell's abject horror. "What if they want to use it as a weapon?" she asks, horrified (told ya).

Ummm... yeah? What if they want to use it as a weapon? It turns off electrical devices, then turns them back on with no harm done to the machines or to any humans in the vicinity. It's slightly less lethal than a spirited pillow fight. I gotta think most people, if they're going to have their tank blasted, would prefer it be just something which turns the tank off rather than incinerates them. To say nothing of how useful a portable black-out would be as a missile defense system ("There are nukes incoming! But don't worry, as soon as they come within five miles of America's borders they'll shut off and harmlessly splash down in the ocean. Thanks for the free nukes, China!") or an IED defuser. Just point your black-out at any old suspicious lump of crap, find the cell-phone detonator, smash it, you're good to go.

Really, why is it that all weapons technology is evil in a film industry where 70% of the output is about people using weapons technology to shoot bad guys? Does Hollywood expect paragons of virtue to just go into battle against the forces of evil with a slingshot?

Shit. They do...
