I'm already liking this AU more than the movie. Did you know they're not going to have MJ, just Gwen? That's like having a Superman movie where Big Blue spends all his time romancing Lana Lang. There's a word for that.

Lithgow actually needs to be a Spider-Man villain. Possibly Roderick Kingsley.

And yes, it is the Smallville treatment, since Smallville was the middle point in the evolution of teen drama from Dawson's Creek to Twilight.

I love that Smallville sucks so hard that it's now ruining other superhero franchises simply by EXISTING.

I always saw Kingsley as more James Spader. Don't know why. But Lithgow would make a great Norman Osborn. One moment he's Harry's dad, fun-loving father figure, the next he's this cackling freak in green, still kinda funny but, you know, trying to kill people, then, bridge scene, holy fuck Trinity.

Anyone who has menaced both Sylvester Stallone and Buckaroo Banzai is a good choice to give Spidey a run for his money.

I wouldn't mind Gwen if they were doing the Peter/MJ/Gwen love triangle, with Mary-Jane as the supposed Other Woman who then matures with Gwen's death and turns out to be the One, or if they were doing Felicia. But Gwen on her own? Why not just make her MJ, since you've already got Emma Stone. Everyone knows Peter doesn't end up with Gwen, after all...
