Fic: Brig (BSG)

Title: Brig
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 539
Timeline: Takes place during 4x14 Blood on the Scales
Characters/Pairings: Athena, Caprica
Summary: Why Athena let Caprica hold her baby.

Athena had forgotten how small the brig felt. Objectively, she knew it was roughly the same size as her quarters or a locker room. Maybe it was just that her fellow Cylons were crammed in with her. Or maybe it was all the frakking bars.

Caprica sat down beside her. Sharon instinctively shifted Hera to the arm furthest from the Model Six. “Are you alright?” Caprica asked, far too earnest for such a sultry face.

“Yeah. I’m just about to be raped by some psycho. Just another day in the life.”

“I won’t let that happen.”

“Why do you care?” Caprica lifted her head, startled. “You hate me, remember?”

Caprica smiled disarmingly. “Why would I hate you? You’re my sister Cylon.”

“I killed your sister Cylon.” Hera started crying and Sharon petted her hair.

Caprica’s hands hovered like she was being held at gunpoint. She was trying to decide how and if she could help.

Sharon clutched her daughter possessively. “She’s fine. Just scared by all the tension.”

“She can sense emotion?” Caprica was already smiling.

“I don’t know. Sometimes it just seems that way. She’s such a mystery… I’m sorry for what happened—what I did to Natalie.”

Caprica shook her head, blonde curls dancing. “It was her destiny. The dying leader took us to Earth.”

“Where we saw the folly of our warfare.”

Caprica nodded, surprised. “I didn’t know you still listened to the one true god.”

“I haven’t forgotten his voice.”

Caprica brought her legs up and loosely hugged them. “So what are you and your husband teaching the little one?”

“That the God of Cylons is one of the Lords of Kobol.”

“Blasphemy,” Caprica said dryly.

”Once, living with humans would be called the same thing.”

Caprica tucked her face down, her smile gathering some dust. “You remind me of the other Sharon. She had such high hopes for New Caprica.”

“So did all of us. Just not me.”

“Why not?”

Sharon pinched Hera’s cheeks a little. “Can you believe mommy is having girltalk with a Cylon?” She hugged Hera a little more tightly than usual. “They took her. She’d grown inside me and I so wanted—“

“To meet her?”

Sharon nodded. “It felt so right to be offering life to God instead of death. Like I was being forgiven.”

There was quite for a while, as footsteps stomped down the metal grating outside. When they were gone, no one felt much like talking. Minutes of fists tightening, teeth grinding passed.

“I don’t think God wants us to hate,” Caprica admitted. “It’s a valid emotion, but not all emotions are like love.”

“They don’t come from God,” Sharon agreed.

Hera made a little cooing sound that melted Caprica.

“Would it be alright if I sang her a song? I used to sing it to the bodies on the resurrection hub. I would pretend they were sleeping.”

“Yes, that’d be fine. Here.” Sharon held Hera out to Caprica, who took her with almost paralytic care. “Support her head and make a little bench with your other arm to hold her weight. She’s not a baby anymore.”

Caprica was wonderstruck. “She’s light as a feather.” And, cradling Hera protectively to her chest, Caprica began to sing.

Minor spellign error.

“I didn’t know you still listened to the one true god.”
It's a big G.

Yes, I know I misspelled "spelling". I noticed it right after I hit Submit.

Oh! I like this a lot. Especially the religion discussion because, well, I've been wondering since forever if Athena still believes in a god who ordered the genocide of her husband's race. And, well, I like how they're combining religions. And the reconciliation between them is nice.

Aw. CAPRICA AND HER BABIES.

I think Athena and Caprica should just dump Helo by the wayside and be Cylon!mommies. That would be awesome.

Helo would make a good dad. He'd teach his kids how to play pyramid and fly Raptors.

Oh, and happy birthday! You get Helena/Zinda smut.

Yes, he would. Maybe they could threesome?

Helo's going to end up married to the entire Eight line, so he might as well start practicing.

This is beautifully written and very moving. I love both Six and Eight and this was a very good portrayal of both.
