LOVE Io and Diana.

This means I need to start reading WW, I take it?

You might not want to bother - It's pretty old and Io only got cheek. Except in my secret fantasy world, where Io grabbed Diana, said "This is what I've been waiting for," and bent her backward with a holy-shit-I-am-a-rock-star kiss.

So is Io supposed to be male or female in the comic?

She's ALL woman.

Or, alternately, she's strong enough for a man, but made for a woman.

I wasn't sure. That's a fairly small image, and while it's a female name, it's not like comic book writers get those right all the time.

So, if I wanted to read good Wonder Woman stories, are there any trades you would recommend?

The Hiketia is a pretty good place to start if you just want to get a feel for the character. George Perez's work is great, but a little dated. I can see it not being a body's cup of tea, but it's still worth a look. Greg Rucka's run is pretty awesome, though unfortunately cut short by Infinite Crisis.

As for Gail Simone's run, jury's still out on whether Simone Awesomesauce will outweigh annoying forced shipping. Still, it's already a damned sight better than either Heinberg or Picoult could come up with.
