Lucy Liu IS American John Watson

On the one hand, Watson being female (and Asian!) does take it further away from the Department of Redundancy Department with RDJ!Sherlock and Cumberlock. On the other hand, don't we already have, like, a dozen shows about a brilliant-but-eccentric detective and his faithful, flustered gal sidekick?

ETA: But lol at all the comments going "oh god, I hope they don't give them UST, ugh!" Guuurl, you know you don't mind Sherlock UST as long as it's two hot guys. By your standards, they would just be keeping faithful to the characters.

Castle is about a brilliant but straightforward detective and her mutual flusterment with her eccentric man sidekick.

BREAKING NEW GROUND

My response to all this controversy was "Have none of you turned on a TV in America recently? Or at any point in the past fifteen years?

Someone on my tumblr dashboard was all "oh, they're just making her female so they can bang and it won't be gay". And I thought of Castle and their four seasons of NOPE.avi and just laughed and laughed.

And it's not like Sherlock isn't as gay as they can make it without having them actually be gay. Heck, just about every show like this has gay tension nowadays. (Psych, House) Making it straight tension is actually unusual. And there's nothing to say the yank version won't have Sherlock hitting on dudes. What if he's bi? Didja ever think of that, fandom?
