Here's a better question: "Why is Snow White never played by an albino?"

I saw an article on io9 asking why Snow White is, in two movies, being played by white people. Aside from the name, of course. Now, to be fair, Hollywood did try to make a movie about an Asian Snow White, but for some reason, investors didn't find Yellow Snow palatable.

Yay racewank.

Almost as good as the time Hunger Games fans started yelling at the writer that she got the race of her lead character wrong.

Yes, the never-actually specified race, from what I understand.

But she's oppressed, so she's clearly a character of color.

I've actually heard similar arguments about the Princess and the Frog. Specifically, I mentioned, in a mocking tone, some lady on Youtube who was complaining because Tiana apparently had a big butt, and I said, sarcastically, that of course black people never had big butts. Someone commented with the implication I was being racist. I responded that my mother and sister would be happy to find out they're not black.

Cue the other person shutting right up.

I remember when HBO ran a series of multi-racial fairy tales. Snow White became Native American White Snow

There are a large number of folklore stories that follow more or less the same premise.

And then there was Disney's "Cinderella", starring Brandy Norwood and Whitney Houston.

I think I remember that one! Didn't it have Whoopi Goldberg as queen, a white guy as king, and an Asian as their son, the handsome prince?

I think it might've, yeah. I watched it something like fourteen years ago, so I can't remember all the details. I don't even remember where I watched it.
