Just an odd thing I noticed

There's this pretty popular post going around on tumblr showing American states where you can marry your first cousin (quite a few) versus states where gay marriage is legal (just a few). The implication being, I guess, that it's kooky how legal cousin-marrying is (even though it's gross) and how legal gay marriage isn't (though it isn't). Which... struck me as being a picture with something wrong in it.

So I just thought of it: What if you want to marry your first cousin... and you're both the same sex?

There's an overlap.

THe cousin situation is followed by the genetics issues but if they are both the same gendered than at least they aren't getting the inbreeding issues.

If my cousin is Felicia Day, I'm for it.

It's kind of an odd comparison, anyway, because the social taboo on first-cousin marriage in the west is fairly recent, historically speaking. Through the middle of the 19th century it wouldn't have been considered unusual.

You're really comparing something that has become less socially acceptable over time with something that is becoming more socially acceptable over time.

Therefore there must be a place where the two meet in the middle! Like Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchette in Benjamin Button ^_~.

I've also seen similar comparisons between gay marriage states and legal bestiality states.

For some reason, actual gay people get pissed at being compared to people who have sex with animals.
