Succeedery

So I think history (and fandom's reactions to Lost Girl) has proven me correct in making the two female leads in my novel friends-with-subtext rather than out and out bisexual. Maybe there will come a time when we can write hot bisexual ladies who end up with dudes and it's no big deal, but not today. Just like with ladies getting fridged and 70% of the plot points on Glee, the tropes are just so prevalent that they can't be taken out of context.

Thanks for ruining greedy big-nosed funny-talking "alien" merchants for the rest of us, Jabba.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by fandom's reactions to Lost Girl?

My f-list is not taking it well that Bo, the heroine, is spending lots of time together with Dyson, her male love interest, while entire episodes go by without her female lover interest showing up.

Oh, well I am too. In the promo materials and interviews they said there was a love triangle, but so far Lauren has mostly been off screen, with no triangulation happening. :) I assume it kicks in later in the season, but Lauren wasn't in the last episode at all. That was a bummer.

But that seems more like the show and the fans having timing issues more than pervasive resentment that Bo's bi-ness includes Dyson. There might come a time when there's a big "Why did Bo choose Dyson over Lauren" kind of fan war, but Bo hasn't made that choice yet. Right now, heck, she can't even get with Lauren if she wanted to without killing her.

I guess what I'm saying is, for me the takeaway is try to not introduce your bi protagonist's female love interest and then have her mostly off-screen the first third of your book if you can help it. :)
