Magnus exhaled irritably. "As Oscar Wilde once said, 'To lose one parent may be regarded as misfortune. To lose both looks like carelessness.'"
Well, at least Clare's gotten around to citing her 'homages.' (
hat's not something Oscar Wilde said, by the way, it's a line from his book The Importance of Being Earnest. So 'To quote Oscar Wilde' would be more accurate. And Magnus, being someone named Magnus, seems like the kinda guy who would be on the ball about this stuff.
