Friday night telly (but mostly Dollhouse)

I knew my fic was getting Jossed, but I had a hard time guessing it would be Jossed THAT HARD. Well, it was nice having a sympathetic character on Dollhouse while it lasted.

Seriously, the plot twist of Ballard having sex with Mellie, knowing she's a Doll... I get that it's supposed to be some searing indictment of the patriarchy and blah blah Power-Girl's-costume-is-ridiculous-cakes, but it came off as just the kind of sleazyedgy shock value you'd find in a bad episode of BSG. Like, what, they couldn't get enough angst-mileage from Paul being in love with a Doll/having to maintain the cover of a relationship with said Doll, they had to make him a rapist? But, oh, a sympathetic one, because he really wanted to get laid and she's really pretty. Give me a break.

I just have a hard time finding that angst affecting. I mean, we're talking Scott Summers-level "boohoo, I abandoned my wife and baby son for another woman, the agony of being me!" wangst here. Maybe it's because I've never found it that hard not raping someone. It's really pretty easy when you put your mind to it. It seems to come naturally to most people.

But hey, she was all cleavage-y and asking for it, so I guess he couldn't help himself, eh Joss Whedon? Really, now, I've tried to have an open mind, but including a repugnant cliche like that is just a new low.

I will say one thing for the compressed pace, at this rate, hopefully Mellie will get her mind back soon and appropriately rake Paul over the coals for being with her after finding out she was a Doll.

As for the A-plot, not enough Adelle/Margaret and it suffered from playing with every character being "did I love Margaret or am I the killer? Okay, we revealed who did it, now here's how we really feel." I think it might have been better if there were no killer, just Margaret finding out how all her loved ones felt about her.

Also, did you not get that Topher is pathetic and creepy and, like, Joss Whedon is a geek, but he's not that kind of geek (except for when he makes an entire series about sexy-sexy Eliza Dushku getting raped)? Well, this is the episode for you! Bets on Gamer!Sierra just being a copy of Topher's memories?

Come to think of it, Dollhouse is pretty much just the TV version of the just-announced Marvel Divas comic. BOY, IT SURE IS TOUGH BEING A WOMAN. HEY, LOOK AT MY TA-TAS!

MICHAEL PUT HIS BABY IN SARA. I’LL TELL YOU WHEN THAT STOPS BEING D’AWWESOME, BUT YOU’RE IN FOR A LONG WAIT.

It kind of fells like Dollhouse is moving REALLY fast in it's plot, I mean next week Paul gets all up in the Dollhouse. At this rate the The only places I can see the show going from here is either mindbogglingly boring seasons of him trying to get people to believe him, or we're getting NEW VILLAIN/ANTAGONIST.

Assuming the show isn't canceled. So I guess I probably don't have to worry.

I don't, but more in the "ARGH WHAT DO NOT WANT" direction. I don't care if Ballard was fighting it, it's still Squick.

Well, everything else aside, I thought the whole Topher thing was kind of cute in a weird way- though this is dependent on it not being sexual, which I really don't think it was. I mean, Topher's a reprehensible person fo' sho'- but his ultimate fantasy is having someone (most likely a clone of himself, yes) to play battleships with? That's just saaaad.
